Weekend Fun
ODOG has been busy around town the past 24 hours. A visit to Joaquin Miller Dog Park Friday evening was a chance to see old friends and meet some new ones. Outstanding was Rufus, surely the largest dog in the park. We hope his person will send us a photo or two.

Helping a friend look for a dog to adopt we got to visit a foster home on the other side of the Hills with five wonderful dogs. Barney is probably the fastest dog in five counties–a Bassett x Pit Bull. Sturdy, supple, low to the ground and have a great time flying around his yard with no apparent reason other than the joy of being alive.
Then to Paws and Claws, Oakland’s community based pet supply store in the Dimond. Ruth and Diane hosted another wonderful Yappy Hour party and gave speaking time to lots of us from neighborhood projects.
Then, Saturday morning at 7:45 dog owners and a lot of other park lovers gathered to clean the median strip at Bancroft Avenue and 82 Avenue. This was the second year Oakland Parks Coalition organized this great clean up day.
A mid-day visit to the City of Oakland shelter where we shared some goodies from last week’s bake sale and continued our search for a large, calm dog for an elderly friend seeking a walking companion. If you know such a dog or know how to sign up for a service dog, please contact odogparks@comcast.net
While ODOG offered cookies to staff and volunteers, Friends of Oakland Animal Services invited all of us to their annual fundraiser, SWEET. Click the cute animals below for party details.
