Who are we?

Dog BoneO'Dog Home
We are an organization of responsible Oakland dog owners whose mission is to:

Work in partnership with the city of Oakland and her communities to create enclosed, off leash areas where people can play with their dogs.

In addition, we encourage the changing of existing ordinances so dog owners could bring their dogs to most city parks on leash.

Several dog owner groups belong to O'Dog:
  • Pooches for Parks (Lake Merritt Area)
  • The Public Pooch (the hill area)
  • Hardy Park Dog Owners Association (Claremont Avenue and Hwy 24)
  • C.A.M.P. (Canines at Mosswood Park).

O'Dog is a charter organizational member of CAL DOG which promotes responsible dog ownership and off leash access with shared use of public space through education, cooperation, legislation and public advocacy.

Oakland dogs and their owners have to commute to play spaces in other cities.  When dog owners travel to another city for pet-based recreation, they take their shopping dollars with them.  (Pt. Isabel dog run behind Costco, Richmond).Photo Credit: Suzanne Brady

This parade entry won the prize for the best community group.  Was that due to the cuteness of the pups or the political charisma of the Oakland owners?  You be the judge!
