Grove-Shafter Park

Grove-Shafter is a 20,000 square foot dog area in West Oakland, with separate spots for large and small dogs.

At the “leash cutting” ceremony for this park in early 2011, City Council member Jane Brunner said, “When you have dogs at a park, it makes it safer, they love it. And, so far, the community has gotten active. It really is a great thing.”

The Longfellow Community Association has adopted the park, pledging to keep it clean and inviting.

Location: 36th Ave. and Martin Luther King Jr Street. Map it.

Open: sunrise to sunset, no night lighting

Surface: grass and wood chips

Parking: street parking available.
