What’s New?

Oakland’s first new dog area in 15 years
Sponsored by City Council Members Jean Quan and Henry Chang. This is a 12 month pilot project.

What Will It Have?

Big and Small Dog areas
Flat and easy to reach by car or foot
Near beautiful on-leash hiking trails

Where is it?

In Joaquin Miller Park which is located on Joaquin Miller Road at Sanborn Drive.

The dog park location is about a half mile into the park. It cannot be seen from the road.

Is It Really A Dog Park?

Yes and No. Our fenced areas for off-leash play are sometimes used as parking lots for major events so instead of calling it a dog PARK we remind users that this is a part-time Dog PLAY area shared with other users.

When Can We Go There?

OPENING INFO The dog park is open dawn to dusk.

CLOSING INFO The Dog Play Area will be closed about 30 days a year for other park events that need the area for parking. Closing dates will be posted and MUST BE OBSERVED by dog owners for our dog area to be a success.

What Can I Do To Make It Happen?

You can get involved in planning the opening and other activities.
