Help Create Equitable Access for Dogs in Oakland Parks

“We’ve seen how these (dog) parks make a community great for people AND pets… It makes an area more attractive for visitors and new residents… The best moments of your life are measured in dog years.”

We missed the deadline for Bark for your Park this year (congratulations to Huntington, WV on winning this year!) But you can still help us in our mission to make space in our parks for our dogs. Currently, it’s illegal to bring a dog to any of the parkland near Lake Merritt (even on leash). We’ve been working for over ten years on the project at Lakeview Park. It would take up only one tenth of one percent of the parkland near the lake. It’s been approved by city agencies several times, and is included in the Lake Merritt Master Plan. But, we need your support.

Easy Ways You Can Help Get this Park Built

Fix Our Fence Party & Fundraiser

TODAY’S THE DAY TO GATHER at Joaquin Miller Dog Park Saturday September 17 from noon to 3 to raise money a new gate system–one that is user friendly.

Party Fun Includes

  • Dog/Owner Look Alike Contest
  • Prize for the Cutest Tail
  • Swap Meet for Dog Toys & Gear
  • BBQ by Monaghan’s on the Hill
  • A Chance to Sing “Take Me Out to the Dog Park”
  • Door Prizes
  • Meet New Dogs & People

If we raise $5000 for user-friendly gates on wheels the dog park can stay open many more days and hours during the summer because we can do our clean-up and de-commission the dog park just a few HOURS before each event instead of being closed for entire weekends.  No more waiting for city staff. With the rolling gate the dog park will be open more hours every summer.

Dog Park Days Were Great!

Our Pet Food Express fundraiser is now over. We had a blast! We met so many cool people, and sold a lot of cupcakes! Big big thanks go to:

  • Pet Food Express:  Their generosity is only matched by their amazing employees. Everywhere we were, the PFX employees were gracious, friendly, and very helpful. Please support this great, local company!
  • Dirty Dogs Hikes and Outings: They were there all weekend, washing dogs, selling cookies, and having an infectious spirit. Dogs love these folks! Your first hike with them is free, and they’ll even hook up a camera to your dog so you can go along virtually!
We’ve got more exciting events coming up, so stay tuned!
