Speak now or forever hold your leash!

Our appeal for the Lakeview Dog Play Area is going to be heard by Oakland City Council soon. If we don’t show up this one last time, we will never get equitable space in our parks. Please take a moment to write to City Council. Use your own words, and speak from the heart. EVERY LETTER COUNTS. Write, even if you’ve written to the Planning Commission in the past.

Recently, the anti-dog park group has again been spreading misinformation to rally opposition to this long-planned park. They staked out the footprint of the park. But, in their continuing effort to scare parents they made an entrance to the dog park right next to the tot lot. They’re also telling people that there are other dog parks “a few extra feet” away, within walking distance. In reality, there’s nothing for people with dogs in the area. Yet, there are 13 areas for sports.

If this blatant fear-mongering and misrepresentation of facts makes you as angry as it did at the Planning Commission meeting, let Oakland City Council know! Send an email and tell City Council they should reject these lies.

Pizza & Pooches: Space available: Join us!

We’re having an event to discuss the proposed Lakeview dog park, and get letters to City Council. Meet your fellow dog-lovers in a beautiful, sunny private garden. We will provide all the supplies, and pizza and snacks, too.

LOCATION: 373 Hanover Street, Oakland [map]

Date: Sunday, October 7th, 1 pm - 4 pm

What: Pizza, snacks, and other refreshments. Bring your laptop or iPad if you want to send a letter electronically.

Dogs: Very well-behaved dogs are invited to come, too. As this is a private garden, dogs who love to dig may want to stay home.

City Council candidate Sean Sullivan, a strong supporter of ODOG will be available to take your questions. Mary Scott and Susan Snyder, who collaborated on a beautiful book of historical photos of dogs will be signing their book as a fundraiser for ODOG ($15 for a copy).
